What is your payment process and policy?

We have set up many convenient ways to pay so our tenants never have to worry about making payment. You can pay online, over the phone with our automated payment line or with a representative, mail in payment or set up autopay so you don’t have to worry about any of that. We accept payment using all major credit/debit cards, ACH bank account (checking or savings) and check/money order. For most customers payment is due when making the rental and then subsequent payments will be due on that anniversary date. There is a 5 day grace period for payment to be received and on day 6 they are considered late.

Contractors and other businesses may request net 15 payments and these are approved on a case by case basis.

What is the best way to pay for storage?

The initial payment for all types of storage must be made using a credit or debit card because of the delay associated with other forms of payment. After that, we recommend setting up automatic ACH payments from a checking or savings account. This will ensure you do not miss any payments and you will not be charged a processing fee. This can be set up at the time of rental, online through your account or later over the phone with a representative. You may also avoid processing fees by mailing a check/money order to P.O. Box 7867, Paducah, KY 42002. Due to varying postal delivery times we recommend sending checks a few weeks early to ensure they arrive on time. We do NOT accept cash.

Do you charge processing fees?

Unfortunately, payment processors charge at least a 3% processing fee on all transactions made via credit or debit card. After the initial rental payment, we pass along this fee for these type transactions. See “what is the best way to pay for storage” for tips on how to avoid processing fees.

How do I rent a storage unit?

Whether you need an industry leading mobile storage unit, a traditional self storage unit, or a parking spot, we have two quick and convenient ways to book. You may use our website to check rates, discounts, get a free quote and complete your rental 24 hours a day. You may also call during normal business hours and speak to one of our highly qualified sales representatives. They can complete the entire rental process for you right over the phone. You get the same great rates either way you choose to book, and it's all contactless and paperless.

Do I have to notify you ahead of time that I am moving out?

Moving out and ending your rental agreement with storagePUP is easy. All we ask is for at least a 10 day notice of your intention to move out. This allows us to turn off autopay so you are not charged after you move out and to make arrangements to pick up your mobile unit if applicable. To confirm your move out we ask for a picture of the unit once emptied and swept clean. There is no penalty or fee if you change your mind within the 10 days and decide to extend your rental.

How often can I access my unit?

All of our self-storage facilities have automatic gates and each tenant receives a unique gate code that they may use to access the facility 24 hours a day. And the beauty of having a mobile unit at your home or business is knowing you can access your things at any time without having to drive to a storage facility.

Do you offer discounts or specials?

We offer discounts based on market demand and available inventory, please visit our website storagepup.com and select your location for up to date rates and promotions.

Do I receive a refund if I move out before the end of my rental period?

Our storage rentals are based on a full month rental period. This ensures tenants can take their time moving in or out of their unit and not rush to do it in one day or weekend. Due to that, there is no proration if you move out early.

Do you offer tenant protection plans?

Yes, we currently carry Safelease’s tenant protection plan which is similar to insurance. A full description of their plans and coverage are available under the resources tab on our website. It is designed to protect against theft, fire and smoke, mold/mildew, rodents, wind and rain, etc. It is our belief that if your items are worth paying to store they are worth protecting through our policy or your own. There is no pressure to take our coverage though, if you have your own insurance, send us a picture or copy of the declaration page and we will exempt you from ours.

Who delivers the mobile units?

We only use local trusted drivers to deliver, move, and pick up our units. These driver’s are a part of the community, so they know the area and care about the customers they are delivering to. We negotiate the lowest possible rates to deliver units and pass them directly to our customers with no markup. This way our tenants get the best delivery service for the best price.

What is the best way to speak to a representative?

We pride ourselves on having the best customer service in the industry. To achieve this, we have dedicated representatives handling only a few locations each so that they can be experts on them. This means you are very likely to speak to the same rep every time you call instead of random people in other countries. We do this by having a separate phone number for each location that rings directly to those reps. The easiest way to find the number for the location nearest is through our website and location list on the homepage.

What happens to my stuff if I do not pay my bill?

At storagePUP, we understand occasionally things will come up that make it difficult to pay on time, that’s why we give everyone a 6 day grace period and many convenient options for making payment. If a tenant is unable to make payment within that time frame we put our lock on the unit (known as overlocking) so they cannot access their things until the account is paid current. This is an unfortunate part of the storage industry but one that is necessary to protect our business. Once the account is paid in full, the overlock is removed.

Do you have climate-controlled units?

We are one of the first to offer air conditioned mobile storage units in the industry. Never before has there been an option to protect your things from heat and humidity with a unit available directly at your home or business. In the past, if you wanted climate control you had to haul your things to a traditional storage facility. Our coolPUPs give you the convenience of mobile storage with the protection of air conditioning.

Many of our traditional storage buildings also have air conditioned units and we have set up our coolPUPs for self storage at some locations.

Is there anything I cannot store in my unit?

Obviously you cannot store anything illegal - stolen items, illicit drugs, or anything alive or dead, etc. There are also safety concerns that restrict the storage of toxic materials, gasoline and other flammable items including fireworks, firearms and ammunition. It's a bad idea to store perishables as they can attract pests and rodents. If you put damp or wet items in your unit it will promote the development of mold and mildew. It is prohibited to loiter/hang out in or around the unit and you definitely cannot live or stay overnight in the unit.

Finally, due to the risks of storing things outside of your direct ability to monitor and safeguard, we strongly discourage tenants from storing what they may consider irreplaceable items such as collectables, heirlooms, jewelry, works of art, etc.

Do I need an air conditioned unit?

The simple answer is yes. The only way to confidently ensure your things will not mold or mildew or have other adverse effects from moisture is to actively remove the humidity from the unit. The best way to do this is with air conditioning. That being said, we’ve had tenants rent standard units for years with no issue. A lot depends on what you store, how dry those contents are when moved in, and the weather conditions when you move them in.

If it’s raining when you move into a unit and/or your things are wet and damp when storing them, even an air conditioned unit will have a hard time removing all of that moisture before mold and mildew starts to grow.

Is your facility drive-up access for self storage?

Yes, all of our units have external drive up access. That makes them the most convenient option for loading and unloading. No ramps, no stairs, no long narrow corridors and especially, no elevators. You can pull right up to your unit and load your things directly into it.

Do the parking spots have power access?

Our Mexico Beach location has covered parking spots for boats and RVs that have access to electricity. This can be used for battery chargers, occasional use of a pressure washer and other small electronics. If you plan to use the power for larger appliances like a freezer, just let us know and we will add a small fee to cover the extra usage.

Why isn't my gate code working?

Outside of a technical issue with the gate or keypad, there are two reasons a tenant’s code may not work.  If a tenant is past due on their rent, their access is temporarily removed until the account is paid current, or if a new rental is set up for a future date the gate code will not work until the first official day of the rental period.

Do I need to provide my own lock?

Yes. To reduce overhead expenses we manage all of our facilities remotely, meaning there will not consistently be a manager at the location. We also allow 24 hour online rentals and access to the facility. So it’s more affordable and convenient for tenants to supply their own locks than for us to supply them in a secure and timely manner.

Will my price ever go up?

At storagePUP, we are consumers also, and no one likes it when the price of a service they’ve been using increases, whether it's for cable tv, insurance, apartment rent, etc. Unfortunately, over time the expenses to operate and provide that service can increase, and the only way to stay in business is to pass those increased costs to the customer.

Increasing storage rates is not something we take lightly, and we only do it when absolutely necessary. We will not increase rates within the first 90 days of a new rental and generally it’s never within the first 6 months. If we do have to raise rates, we give tenants at least a 30 days notice to allow them to make other storage arrangements if necessary.

Rate increases are based on operating costs, inventory levels, inflation and fair market value. At this time we do not plan to increase rates and any of our locations for the foreseeable future.

Do you regularly spray for pests?

Yes, as part of our goal to provide safe and secure storage our tenants can trust with their things, we have Florida Pest Control treat our self storage facilities for pests and rodents. We also encourage all tenants not to bring any food items into their units to further reduce the chance of pests.

How long is the rental agreement?

As is typical for the entire storage industry, our rental agreements are month to month and automatically renew every time you pay for a new month. We find this is the ideal length of term to give tenants both security and flexibility.
